Help! I love to read but don't have the time

I'm an avid reader. My mother introduced me to reading long before I could talk. I am also a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, writer and housekeeper. So when do I have time to read just for fun? and Are you having trouble finding time to read just for fun?

Ask yourself these questions:

Can I read while waiting in line at the supermarket? While waiting to see the doctor or dentist?

My answer: I love reading while I'm at sonic. For me reading while I wait is great! I carry a book with me everywhere I go. I read while waiting in line with my groceries or at Walmart... I confess, I love their long lines, it gives me more time to read.

Can I go to bed an hour early and read? Or get up an hour earlier then the rest of my family and relax with a good book?

My answer: I try to go to bed early so that I can read. Beware, sometimes the book is so good I spend most of the night reading. I read in the morning too but that is Bible and Devotional reading. I love getting up earlier then everyone else and reading the wonderful stories in the Bible. They are amazing and true.

Is there one hour of the day that I can just relax and read?

My answer: Since I'm a stay at home writer, I will often sit down after lunch and just read for an hour. I have to set the kitchen timer or will end up there all afternoon :)

I hope this has helped you to see that you can get your reading time in. So go ahead... relax with a good book. I know I will.

I'm like you, Rhonda. I find time for my passion for reading. Without it, I can be a miserable person to be around. Nothing makes me happier than a stack of books by my favorite authors.

You covered all my suggestions, Rhonda. And I think anyone who really enjoys reading already knows how to make time for it. And the biggest step? TURN OFF THE TV!!!

I know there are times when you just want to be alone, and have your me time. Sometimes when I'm overwhelmed, I go sit on the edge of the tub and pray. Maybe you can do the same, and read for about 20 minutes. What also helps me is that I go sit on the porch, or take a walk around the yard. There is where you can find time to read.

I often feel like something is missing unless I am in the midst of reading yet another book! Yes, turn off the Television and share a book with your spouse or family. When I read a book that has great plot and characters that I know my husband, Roger, will enjoy, I read it aloud to him. He loves it! We also read while on the road, whether short or long trips. I read aloud and he drives. We've come to truly love this time of sharing and discussions of the stories we read.

Anybody to go the hairdresser very much? Sometimes it takes awhile during those Saturday hairdresser appointments...perfect reading time! I also stay up a little late or get up early to read, too.

Read during commercials while watching The Biggest Loser. Lol. By the time the shows finished you will have had at least 20 minutes of good reading.

Okay, I'm blushing over here, but I find time to read in the bathroom. Either going to restroom or taking a bath. I have books on my bed and go to be earlier just so I can read. I will force myself to cut off at a certain time. Either and hour or a certain hour. Plus, there are times during the day that I need a break from writing, so I'll pick up a book then. I try to have a book in each place, so that I'm not wasting time figuring out which book I want to read. That's valuable reading time, after all. *smiling*

I also read while waiting at the doctor's office, while hubby is in Home Depot, things like that.

I always have a book with me. I read while my husband drives us to church, to visit friends, and other places. I cook extra food so that we have left-overs, which gives me extra time to write or read. And, yes, I read at Sonic!

I go to the drive-through at the bank and fast food restaurants and read while I wait. I always have a Heartsong in my car or purse, or both.

Rhonda,

I read everywhere, too. It de-stresses me to pick up a magazine in a "turtle-paced" line at the supermarket.
Why not lose yourself in a good story instead of inwardly grousing about that slow, elderly lady in front whose groceries are stacked three feet above her cart. And you have only ONE item. LOL (I know that all of you can relate.)

I get most of my reading done while exercising on the elliptical. I know many can't read and exercise, but you really get used to it and it makes the time fly by, really! Plus, it's multitasking! Which I love!

How can I not read? I carry a book in my purse so I can steal even a couple of minutes to read. I've even started reading while my husband drives. Every minutes counts. All your suggestions are great.

I carry a book with me everywhere I go. I am now reviewing on several sites so read all I can. Of course my children are grown. But even then, I would take a book to the school when I waited to pick them up. I would escape to the bathtub for an hour of relaxed reading or until water got to cold to stand. It was my way to reduce stress in those days.
Now I sit at my slow moving computer and sites load so slow, I read while waiting for them to load. I can finish a book quick that wayas the computer does load slow.
I have taken them into exam rooms waiting on doctors and now have two doctors I share my books with as well as their staff.
It has even opened doors for me.
I find the books relieve my stress and make me more relaxed.
God Bless.

My daily, special reading time is every afternoon while I'm waiting for my son at the high school. The school is very large and has LOTS of afternoon traffic, so in order to get my "prize spot" by the curb (right in front of the school!) I must arrive almost an hour before dismissal. I always have the current book I'm reading along with a cup of iced tea (and sometimes a snack,LOL!). It's very relaxing and the time flies. Blessings, Patti Jo :)

I go on reading binges - devouring a book a day for 3 or 4 days - then it's back to writing, editing, promoting LOL!

Reading makes us better writers. I read every day in the morning and at night. It relaxes me and takes me away.

I read whenever I can, Rhonda. I have books on my PDA so if I have to wait--wherever--I have something to read. I also read on the PDA at night when my husband wants the lights out so he can sleep. ;) My favorite place to read print books though is my bed--propped up with lots of pillows. When I can get away from the kids that is.

Hi Rhonda,
I try to start my morning with Bible reading and devotional. Then I carry a book every where I go, in my purse. I read at the doctor's office, or wherever I am and have a few minutes. I don't read when hubby's driving, I like to visit with him. I do read in the evening while he watch's TV. I'm not much of a TV watcher. He likes for me to be sitting next to him, but he doesn't care if I read. I read in the bath tub and when I take a break from writing, while hubby is getting gas in the car, or he's out running errands. I manage to find time for my passion of reading a little while every day. I love to read and to write.
