Special Guest - Debby Mayne

Good Morning!

The White Rose authors are happy to welcome special guest author, Debby Mayne and her book, Peachtree Dreams!
Author and speaker Debby Mayne grew up in a military family, which meant moving every one to three years throughout her childhood. Debby was born in Alaska and lived in Mississippi, Tennessee, Oregon, Florida, Hawaii, and Japan. Her comfort foods are as diverse as her interests. You might find her eating sushi while reading a cozy mystery novel or fried catfish while watching a Tampa Bay Buccaneers football game.

Her husband of almost 30 years has accepted the fact that outside of her faith and family, books are the most important thing in her life. She and Wally have two grown daughters, Lauren and Alison, a son-in-law, Jason, and a granddaughter named Emma.

Debby has published 11 books, more than 400 short stories and articles, and 5 novellas that have been printed in 6 anthologies. She has also worked as the managing editor of a national health magazine, product information writer for a TV retailer, and as a copy editor and proofreader for several book publishers. Debby currently enjoys writing Christian fiction, which allows her the freedom to tell stories without restraining her convictions.

She lives on Florida’s west coast with her husband and two cats. To learn more about Debby, visit her website at http://debbymayne.com.

About writing for Barbour Publishing: Ever since my first sale to Barbour in 1999 (Harvest Home anthology, 2000), I've enjoyed steady sales and great support from the editorial staff. Rebecca Germany, JoAnne Simmons, the copy editors, and proofreaders have worked hard to make my books as good as they can be.

Hope you enjoyed our special guest today - check back often and see what the White Roses are up to!

Welcome Debby. Congratulations on your new release as well as all your books. They all sound fabulous. You are one busy lady! I've been to Hawaii and long to go back to the islands one day. The blue waters against Diamond head are absolutely stunning. I'm a cat lover too! Thanks for joining us today. Best of luck in all you do.

Hi, Sharon! I'd go back to live in Hawaii in a heartbeat if it weren't so expensive.

Hi, Debby! Your book sounds so fun. I grew up an Air Force Brat, and lived all over the US - from North Carolina, California, back to NC, finally settling in Tucson, Arizona. Always felt cheated we didn't get overseas!

One of the biggest joys and challenges I'm experiencing right now is writing with young kids. (Rachel is 5, and Ellie is 3 1/2) Did you write when your girls were young?

Of all the books, which is your favorite?

Thanks for coming over to White Roses in Bloom! Nice to know you.

~Ashley

Hey, Ashley! It's great to meet another "brat"!

Yes, I did write when my girls were young. In fact, that's what got me started. I wrote parenting articles that led to short stories, and eventually, I couldn't keep my word count long enough to call my stories short anymore. So they became books. :)

Oh, I forgot to answer your other question, Ashley. My favorite book is always my latest.

Hi, Donna and Teri! I'm really happy to be here.

The Be Still...devo was SO much fun! I was honored when Andrea included me in the invitation to write this. It turned out more rewarding than I ever dreamed. We started a blog that will continue until the devo comes out, so if you have time, check us out at http://bestilldevos.blogspot.com.

Hi, Rose! My journey to book publication was long. I'm not one of those people who always dreamed of being a writer. When I had my first daughter, I had no clue what I was doing, so I asked people and did research at the library. One of my neighbors came in and saw all the little notes I had taped to the walls and various pieces of furniture (notes like "feed this end" and "put lotion here"), and between hysterical laughter, she said I should put it all together and write an article. so I did that. It sold to Seattle's Child. I saw that I could make money writing articles, so I went a little crazy doing that for a few years, and I sold 90+ articles to 44 different parenting publications. As I learned new things, I wrote about them. Then I progressed to short stories, and a few of them got published. When my daughters were old enough to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, I started trying to write books. It took me 5 years to sell the first one to Avalon. My second sale was a novella to Barbour 10 days later. That was in 1999, and I've been selling steadily ever since.

Thank you so much for dropping in Debby!

Your notes do sound funny. By the time I started writing and even considered articles, my children were grown. Hard to remember all those things I learned as a parent - learning them all over again (or rather, helping my daughter learn them) as a grandparent.

Your journey to publication sounds facinating - I started with novels the took the challenge to write short - articles and essays followed.

Congrats and God's blessings for your continued success!
